Born in a Week Only

In 2014 a 19-year-old Italian devloper named Gabriele Cirulli made a simpel puzzle game just for fun. He never thought that his creation will blow up on internet. The game was coded in just 1 weekend and posted on GitHub for anyone to try.

Easy to Play Hard to Stop

2048 is not a very complex game. You just slide number tiles left right up or down to combine same numbers and reach 2048. But the way it hooks players is genius. One move can change everythin and people keep retrying again and again.

Clone of a Clone

Interestingly 2048 was not the first of its kind. It was inspired by another game called 1024 which was already based on a game named Threes. Gabriele openly said 2048 is a clone but still it became more populer because it was free and open-source.

Explosion on Social Media

Right after its release 2048 started spreading like wild fire. Twitter Reddit and gaming forums were full of players sharing scores and strategies. It became more than a game it was a trend. Even schools and offices saw people sneakin in few rounds during breaks.

Countless Versions

Because the source code was open many developers made their own versions. You can now play Doge2048 Pokemon2048 or even Donald Trump 2048. There is 3D version multiplayer mode AI solving version and much more.

Legacy of 2048

Even after 10 years 2048 Game still stays relevant. It showed how a simple idea with clean design can beat high budget games. It also inspired many indie developers to build and share their own projects without fear.
